Exceptions to the Social Assistance Asset Limit in Westland: What Does Not Count?
In Westland, exemptions such as one's own home, household contents, and a car do not count towards the social assistance asset limit. Article 41 of the WWB allows for essential assets, with special consideration for local horticultural needs.

Not all your assets are counted towards the social assistance asset limit in Westland. The Dutch Work and Social Assistance Act (WWB) provides exemptions for essential possessions. In 2024, you may retain the following in Westland without limit:
- Your own home (up to its WOZ value);
- Household contents up to €12,000 per person;
- Clothing, furniture, and household appliances;
- A car valued up to €3,600 (this limit is €11,500 for job seekers with transportation needs to greenhouses or horticultural businesses in Westland);
- Study materials and medically necessary aids, such as mobility scooters for the flat polder landscape;
- Pension accrual through annuities, up to certain limits.
Inheritances or gifts from Westland family businesses must be reported to the municipality within 8 weeks. However, cadastral land used for hobbies such as amateur horticulture may be exempt. These rules are specified in Article 41 of the WWB and the Social Assistance Decree. Holiday pay or periodic income is considered income, not assets.
The municipality of Westland assesses each case individually, taking into account local circumstances, such as the need for bicycles or cars for work in the horticultural sector around Naaldwijk or Monster. Providing evidence is crucial; request an 'asset investigation' at the WestlandWerkplein for clarity. If the limit is exceeded, benefits will be discontinued. These exceptions ensure that social assistance in Westland secures basic needs without depriving horticulturists and residents of essential possessions.
